SA's Own Rolene Strauss Crowned Miss world in London

South Africa's Rolene Strauss wins Miss World 2014

Miss Hungary, Edina Kulcsar, is the runner-up, and Miss United States, Elizabeth Safrit, comes in a third place.

As the crowning took place yesterday at the Excel London ICC Auditorium in London on December 14, 2014; the world watched as Megan Young miss world 2013 crowns Miss South Africa Rolene Strauss as the new Miss World 2014 during the grand final of the Miss World 2014 pageant this bringing so much excitement more special to the South Africans in support of their beauty queen making his-to-ry.

CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF THE MISS WORLD ORGANISATION on her site states:

"63 years is some achievement - Miss World is the longest running event of its kind. Created in 1951, it has grown into a truly international showcase of beauty, fashion, talent and culture. It brings nations together in a way that is unmatched by any other event. 128 nations living together for one month under the same roof, eating the same foods and sharing the same itinerary".

Statement from South Africa's Rolene Strauss as she wins Miss World 2014 title:

"South Africa this is for you," Strauss said afterwards.

"I think I will brace myself for what's about to happen. It's a huge responsibility."

Asked why she felt she wanted to be Miss World, Rolene said:

"Being proudly South African, I have firsthand experience that unity, respect, forgiveness exists those all the aspirations of the Miss World organization, so it would be amazing to represent an organization that is a beacon of hope all over the world."

Other interesting parts of the event are Performances from Sky Blu, The Vamps, and the Miss World candidates themselves as they ease the nervous tension as audiences and the ladies themselves waited to hear the results of the competition.

With another spectacular highlight of the evening when the candidates surprise Beauty With a Purpose founder and Miss World chair Julia Morley with singing a tribute song, also present was Miss World 1953 Denise Perrier.

Sad part to the event is the murder of finalist Maria Jose Alvarado, the 19-year-old Miss Honduras, who was shot dead along with her sister last month.

Who's bodies were found buried on the day the beauty finalist was due to travel to London for the Miss world entry.

It is being said that; Police in Honduras accuse her sister's boyfriend of shooting them after seeing his partner dancing with another man at a party.

The worlds Beauty queen, South African Rolene Strauss will travel to the central American nation, to build a school named in the two Honduras sisters honor.

Another feature is a pecial award for Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai.

The event also featured a special award for 1994's Miss World, Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai.

The 41-year-old Indian actress accompanied by her film star husband Abhishek Bachchan, their daughter Aaradhya and her mother.

The prize was for the Dhoom 2 star's charitable work since being rocketed to fame by Miss World.

The crowning event started with a wonderful choreographed dance routine, with all the contestants shimmering on stage in costumes inspired by their homelands.

Miss Scotland led the contestants in a Highland Fling, a traditional Scottish dance, before Miss United States performed a cowgirl routine.

All beauties were judged on their brains, skills and involvement in good causes.
Contestants present a charitable project in the Beauty with a Purpose round,on which they have been working on in their homelands.

The top 10 contestants , in descending order, from India, South Africa, England, Guyana, Brazil, Hungary, Kenya, United States, Mexico and Australia.

They were later joined by Miss Thailand, who won the people's choice award, being voted for by people around the world through a mobile phone application.

The judges chose Miss Hungary, Miss Australia, Miss South Africa, Miss United States and Miss England as their top five.
All of this spectacular event happenings took part at the ExCel centre in London.

Ahead of the pageant at the ExCel centre, feminist protesters against the Miss world pageant rallied support on Twitter under the hashtag #missworldoldworldmisogyny

Saying:
"The sexist idea that women should be judged on the basis of their appearance influences the way that all of us feel about ourselves as women and the way that men view and treat women,"

Another group backing the protest is the London Feminist Network.


The Beauty world show returns to Bali in Indonesia for the 2015 final.
